Getting Closer....

I am trying hard to nail down the essence of my instructional project. Here's the latest:

Educational Problem/Issue:
Students lack the information literacy skills needed to succeed in courses and as lifelong learners. While the issue of information literacy is not new, the proliferation of online resources and the glamour of the World Wide Web have produced a generation of information seekers that may not necessarily know how to search for infomration effectively and efficiently. Many people now by pass the library altogether when looking for resources and thus may be missing out on the resources that are most appropriate.

Instruction:
Online tutorial and assignment that covers the basics of how to search for and evaluate article citations from a research database. The instruction would have to include information on the differences between periodicals (scholarly v. popular), how to search in the database and how to read a citation to determine research worthiness.

Methodology:
Comparison of bibliographies for English Composition courses that completed the tutorial to those students bibliographies that did not complete the tutorial.

This is where I am now...comments, reactions? Don't yet know what the principles of Educational Psychology are yet, but have a hunch they fall into the Information Processing model.
